Man charged for fatal June hit-and-run

A Salt Lake City man has been charged with six felonies, including manslaughter and leaving the scene of a deadly crash, for a June hit-and-run that killed a teenager.

Police say Llobani Federico Figuero ran a red light while going 90 miles per hour, 60 miles an hour over the speed limit, when he crashed into a car at the intersection of Redwood Road and North Temple on June 21. The crash severely injured a 17-year-old in the other car, who died eight days later.

Figuero fled the scene but his driver license was found in the car he was driving, according to charging documents filed Friday. Police also found a stolen handgun and an assortment of drugs, including 89 grams of black tar heroin. A fingerprint on the stolen gun matched Figuero’s fingerprints, according to police. Drug charges filed against Figuero were enhanced to first degree felonies because he has prior convictions.
