Payson man turns himself in after hit-and-run injures 9-year-old

Police in Payson said Thursday that a man turned himself in amid reports that authorities were searching for a driver who fled after hitting a 9-year-old boy on a sidewalk in Payson.

The boy was taken to a hospital Wednesday afternoon in serious condition. His mother posted on Facebook Thursday that he is OK, but is in pain and has facial swelling. She estimated his recovery will take several weeks.

A photograph of the boy published by KUTV-TV shows him in a neck brace with cuts and bruises across his face and head.

Payson police did not release the name of the man who turned himself in on Thursday, and said that charges are pending.
