(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) “Wildfires scare the heck out of me,” said homeowner Gary Hadfield of living at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Hadfield balances his love for trees with the realization that he needs to create a defensible space around his property in case of a wildfire and welcomed Rocky Mountain Power workers onto his property to clear brush away from the power pole on his property, at left. Rocky Mountain Power has published a map for Little Cottonwood Canyon area homeowners to identify areas where the power company would shut off the electricity on days with high wildfire risk.
