A Salt Lake County man was hit and killed while crossing the Van Winkle Expressway in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 25-year-old was crossing a dark stretch of the road at 1192 E. Van Winkle when he was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder and killed at about 3:45 a.m., Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler said.
Police said the man lived a couple of miles from the area and may have been walking home. He was not at a crosswalk when he was struck by the southbound driver.
The driver remained at the scene.
Police have not yet released the identity of the man who was killed.
