Inmate dies in Davis County Correctional Facility

Officials are investigating the cause of death, though the sheriff’s office says it appears to be from a “medical issue.”

A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead Saturday morning at the Davis County Correctional Facility.

According to a news release from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, the man was booked into the facility on July 18. He was found unresponsive during deputies’ hourly safety and security rounds on Saturday. Medical staff and correctional officers “immediately began to provide lifesaving care,” according to the release, but the man died.

Internal and external investigations are being conducted, and the medical examiner’s office is doing an autopsy. Officials haven’t determined a cause of death yet, but it “appears to be the result of a medical issue,” according to the news release.

The man’s family has been contact, but officials aren’t sharing his identity yet.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends,” Sheriff Kelly V. Sparks said in the release.
