Two fugitives from Wyoming who shot at Sanpete sheriff’s deputies and a Fairview City police officer from inside a home near Milburn on Wednesday morning have been captured.
Brett Gilman Johnson, 50, and Jamie Carol Cleghorn (aka Wheeler), 42, were taken into custody Thursday late afternoon by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Metro SWAT team without incident.
Johnson and Cleghorn were on the run after allegedly burglarizing multiple storage units around Gillette, Wyo. Eighteen guns went missing from one of the units, according to Campbell County court records.
The pair had been traced to a home near Milburn, where officers went to serve a warrant and were shot at. The officers were unharmed. Johnson and Cleghorn then ran east into the mountains. They were found just northwest of the property "after two days of scouring the Milburn area, which involved following footprints and following up on possible sightings,” according to a Twitter post by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
The fugitives are also wanted in Weber County in connection with the theft of a cash box from a car wash in Oregon, according to the Gillette News Record.
