Two people were killed and five were injured when a truck drove off the side of a mountain early Saturday morning in Weber County.

Police think alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Weber County Sheriff Office’s deputies learned of the crash around 4:40 a.m. When they arrived at the scene — near 7000 N. Middle Fork Drive in an unincorporated part of the county — they found a truck approximately 160 feet away from the road and in a ravine, according to a news release.

First responders found seven people at the crash site. Medics pronounced two men — identified as 49-year-old Manuel “Tony” Lopez and 25-year-old Leon Hoang — dead. Two others were flown to the hospital, while two more were taken away by ambulance. The release doesn’t say what happened to the seventh victim, and a call to the sheriff’s office wasn’t immediately returned.

The release described the area where the crash occurred as “mountainous, dirt road," adding that deputies believed “alcohol may be a factor in the accident.”

The victims range in age from 16 to 50 years old.
